John Wells President and Chief Executive Officer 216-220-1322

As President and CEO of ABA Insurance Services Inc., John has served in that role since the company’s inception in 2010. He previously served as the Business Leader for the Professional Liability Group of Progressive and has prior experience as a CPA with two of the Big Four accounting firms as well as a practicing attorney with the firm of Blaugrund, Herbert & Martin in Dublin, Ohio. John earned his Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Capital University and J.D. from Cleveland Marshall College of Law.

John is active with his family and in his community, having spent many seasons as a youth football and baseball coach. He now enjoys watching many of his former players compete at the college and high school level. John serves on the board of the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Team JAM athletic ministries, Hope Community Church and the Aurora Schools Foundation. He also tries to stay active physically both in the gym and on the baseball field as he plays in a Men’s Senior Baseball League. A huge American history buff, John particularly enjoys reading historical biographies.

Todd Evans Chief Operating Officer 216-220-1309

Todd has been serving as COO since the formation of the company in 2010. Todd joined Progressive in 1987 where he served in a number of leadership positions. After twelve years of service primarily to the ABA insurance program, Todd served as Controller for Progressive’s Diversified Business Group from 1999 to 2003, a business unit with annual revenue of $140 million. From 2003 to 2010, Todd served as Director of Systems & Control for Progressive's Professional Liability Group. Prior to joining Progressive Todd was a Branch Manager for Dollar Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace University and a Masters of Business Administration Degree from John Carroll University.

Todd and his family are avid sports enthusiasts. As a youth coach for over 20 years and a man for all seasons, he could be seen in his legendary gray coaching shorts and whistle along the sidelines of numerous youth sporting events. Todd is a married father of three who is a self-proclaimed handy man and enjoys home brewing and tailgating. He is active in his community and church, spending much of his spare time attending local scholastic sporting events. Todd also helps to enhance the Division III athletic experience for students and parents at one of his alma maters.

Shawn McNamara Chief Financial Officer 216-220-1285

Shawn joined the ABA Insurance Services team in September, 2010 with over 15 years of experience serving as a Chief Financial Officer for mid-size manufacturing companies in Northeast Ohio. Shawn’s primary areas of expertise are financial and strategic planning, complex business issues, budget development, acquisitions and business risk management. A 1990 graduate of Cleveland State University, Shawn is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Married with children and living in Aurora, many have heard Shawn’s hearty voice as a past coach of youth football and wrestling squads. Shawn is also known to lead the adult cheering section at all Aurora Football games, hoping to be an honorary member in the foreseeable future. When he is not with his family at a sporting event, Shawn can be found working on some project around the house.

Eric Steiner General Counsel and Director of Claims 216-220-1311

Eric joined ABA Insurance Services from Progressive when the Professional Liability Group (PLG) split off in April 2010. At Progressive, Eric joined the Professional Liability Group as the Division’s Director of Legal in 2008 after practicing in both the Litigation and SEC/Corporate Transactions practice groups in Progressive’s Corporate Law Department. Before joining Progressive, he was an associate at Baker Hostetler LLP, where his practice focused on complex commercial and intellectual property litigation. Eric earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame and received his bachelor's degree from John Carroll University.

In his spare time, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife and children as well as starting home remodeling projects that often have to be completed by competent contractors. The Steiners can often be found playing board games while watching the Browns, Indians, Cavs or Notre Dame compete and, occasionally, win.

Lisa Kelly Bank Program Director 216-220-1296

Lisa graduated cum laude from Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Finance. Prior to joining ABA Insurance Services, Lisa worked for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) as an Assistant National Bank Examiner. Lisa joined Progressive as an Underwriter in 1987 and assumed Underwriting Manager responsibilities in 1990.

Lisa is married with children and many grandchildren who are her pride and joy. Lisa is HUGE sports fan of all Pittsburgh teams, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. She is fond of noting their six super bowl wins when challenged by other teams' fans, which unfortunately for them, seems to occur often. Her alma mater, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are also very close to her heart. In what’s left of her spare time, Lisa enjoys reading and travel and recently returned from an anniversary cruise to Europe!

Michael Read Business Development Manager 216-220-1319

As Business Development Director, Mike is responsible for all revenue generating activities, including new customer acquisition, demand generation and agent experience.  Previously, he held leadership positions in underwriting, customer relations, marketing and sales at Progressive Insurance as part of the Professional Liability Group. Mike began his career as a lending officer at a large commercial bank. He holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from Hiram College, a Master’s in Public Administration from Indiana University, and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.

From an early age, Mike knew he wanted to be a drummer in a rock and roll band. Unfortunately, lack of talent ended that dream and he resorted to his back-up plan–a career in the insurance business. When not thinking about business development strategy, Mike spends time rooting for Cleveland sports teams and working around his house. He also enjoys water sports and staying active through various physical fitness pursuits. Mike is involved in several charitable organizations, serves on the board of a local nonprofit association, and is on the session of his church. He and his wife have two boys and live in Chagrin Falls where his wife is a school principal.

Pat Riley Platform Director 216-220-1346

Pat rejoined the ABA Insurance Services team in the summer of 2012 after spending the prior sixteen years working as a combination underwriting manager/business technology leader for General Reinsurance in Stamford, CT. He has extensive experience working with both professional and property/casualty lines of business. Pat has either personally developed or been responsible for the design and deployment of a host of underwriting, rating, and claims systems. He has a law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College, and a Bachelor's degree from The College of the Holy Cross.

Even though Pat thoroughly enjoys quiet nights at home, he rarely lets the grass grow under his feet too long. With children dotted across the East and Midwest, the Subaru is often gassed up on the weekends, ready for adventure. When not travelling, Pat’s favorite pastimes include taking in a ball game (especially his beloved Tribe), getting lost in a riveting work of fiction, attending mind-blowing concerts, and taking crisp night walks. Pat has a soft spot for skating rinks, family photos, all-things-Cleveland, and an excellent cup of coffee.

Laura Simmons HR Director/EPLI Claims Manager 216-220-1304

Laura has been with the program since it split from Progressive Insurance, becoming ABA Insurance Services in April 2010. Laura joined Progressive in 1992 after receiving her law degree cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She received her bachelor's degree in English and political science from Wittenberg University. Laura deals primarily with employment-related claims and was involved in the development of Progressive's Employment Practices Liability Insurance Policy. She is a frequent speaker on employment-related topics.

Married and mother to two great kids, Laura is also an adventurous traveler and recently white-water rafted in the Grand Canyon and zip-lined in Costa Rica. She is a tennis enthusiast and avid reader.
